Teacher Artist Partnership+ 2024 Summer Course

Announcing a wonderful opportunity for artists and creative practitioners of all disciplines to broaden their practice through Teacher Artist Partnership+ (TAP+) professional development and in-school residency programme. Closing date for expression of interest Friday 7th June 2024.

Develop creative partnerships with teachers and children. Receive funded training and residencies that bring the arts and creativity to children all over Ireland through TAP+, an initiative of Creative Youth 2023-27 under Creative Ireland and led by the Department of Education.

Artists / Creative Practitioners apply for TAP+ via expressions of interest sent to the Director of your local Education Support Centre no later than 5pm on Friday 7th June 2024. Expressions of interest should be in the form of a letter of max 600 words, accompanied by a CV or short bio with links to images or samples of relevant work.

The letter should outline:

1. Training institute/ organisation

2. Brief description of practice

3. Why you aim to work in education and in partnership teachers and children

4. What qualifies you to undertake the TAP+ summer course training and residency programme

Places on this Creative Youth initiative are limited to four Artists / Creative Practitioners per full-time Education Support Centre area. Please ensure that it will be possible for you to meet all requirements of the programme before applying.

Final decision on offers of places will be taken by the Director of the local Education Support Centre.

Free to all primary & special school teachers. Hosted by your local full time Education Support Centre. Approved and led by the Department of Education and ESCI under Creative Youth 2023-2027.

Teacher Artist Partnership+ (TAP+) is a creativity rich summer course that supports professional development through wellbeing, relationships and creative partnership for teachers and artists /creative practitioners. Participants create, explore and collaborate to enhance arts and creativity in education through creative process, critical reflection, collaboration and enjoyment.

Apply for a free in-school TAP+ Residency for your students too!

During the summer course teachers will have the opportunity to apply for a TAP+ Residency to take place in partnership with a creative practitioner from their summer course and their students in the school year 2024/2025. Each Education Support Centre will have 8 Residencies for participating teachers on the TAP+ Summer Course.

Teacher Artist Partnership+ Summer Course Aims:

  • To support participants in planning, implementing, and assessing creativity rich experiences in partnership with children through curriculum and school policy.

  • To enable participants to support children in developing creativity, voice and agency through TAP+.

  • To highlight the potential of creative engagement in supporting and developing equality, diversity and inclusion in the school environment.

  • To sustainably enhance the national programme of school-based creative learning by supporting teachers and creative practitioners to develop professional relationships, knowledge, and skills necessary to work in partnership with children.

*Please note: If you would like to apply for a TAP+ Residency during the summer course for the upcoming 2024 / 2025 academic year, you will need to complete the TAP+ Summer Course in your school's full-time Education Support Centre's catchment area.

Creative Clusters 2024


Creative Clusters
from National Arts in Education 

The Department of Education is pleased to announce the opening of a new round of Creative Clusters (Press Release). The deadline for receipt of applications is 10th May 2024.

Each Creative Cluster will receive grant funding of €3,000 per school over a two-year period to implement their project 2024–2026.


  • 3 schools would receive €9,000
  • 5 schools would receive €15,000


In addition to financial support above each cluster will also receive:

  •  A Creative Cluster Facilitator
  • Teacher Substitution to attend Workshops and Meetings
  • Room hire, travel & subsistence

Eligible Schools - The following schools are welcome to apply to participate in Creative Clusters:

  • Schools that have not yet participated in Creative Clusters.

  • Schools that have not yet participated in Creative Schools and those who will complete Creative Schools Year 2 in the 2023/24 school year.

  • Schools that will complete Creative Clusters Year 2 in the 2023/24 school year. However they must apply as part of a cluster who have not yet participated in the initiative. In this instance, it is required that this school applies to lead a cluster of schools that are new to the initiative.

  • The local Education Support Centre will have a key role in identifying and supporting a Creative Cluster for their local area.

  • 42 Creative Clusters will be selected nationally - 2 per Education Support Centre.

Creative Clusters is an initiative of the Department of Education, led by and in partnership with the 21 full-time Education Centres (Education Support Centres Ireland - ESCI) and funded through the Schools Excellence Fund.

Following on from the success of Tús Maith - Transitions in Action over the past two years, the Education Centre Directors in Mayo, Sligo, Donegal and Carrick-on-Shannon (covering Leitrim, Roscommon and Longford) in collaboration with the County Childcare Committee Managers in these counties are delighted to offer this innovative collaborative project on Transition from Preschool to Primary School again for the school year 2023-2024.

Cluster Meeting 1 events will commence week beginning January 29th in line with the Droichead Cluster Meeting Calendar 2023.2024 (here).

Droichead Cluster Meetings for NQTs


Newly Qualified Teachers (NQTs) are required to attend up to three different cluster meetings for the duration of their Droichead process. Each cluster meeting is a forum where NQTs can discuss and seek clarification about the Droichead process and professional practice. NQTs are encouraged to ask questions, seek guidance, reflect upon particular challenges and share successes, ideas and experiences. Cluster meetings are facilitated by experienced Droichead Induction Associates and provide avenues of both professional and personal support to NQTs. This shared-learning approach builds professional relationships, confidence and competence. NQTs must complete their full cluster meeting requirement in line with the Droichead Cluster Meeting Calendar 2023.2024 (here).

Cluster Meeting Requirement


NQTs must complete one different cluster meeting (specific to their sector, primary or post-primary) per term in sequential order for the duration of their Droichead process. NQTs must complete Cluster Meeting 1 (CM 1) before engaging in either Cluster Meeting 2 (CM 2) and/or Cluster Meeting 3 (CM 3). NQTs should not submit their online Form D until all aspects of their Droichead process, including their full cluster meeting requirements, have been fulfilled. If a Form D is received where all the cluster meeting requirements are not met, it will not be processed by the Teaching Council.

Eligibility:

All schools in receipt of capitation grants from the Department of Education or Education and Training Boards (ETBs) can apply for BLAST.

Fee Paying Schools are not eligible to apply for BLAST Residencies. Schools that are not in the free-education scheme cannot apply for BLAST.

Schools participating in either Creative Clusters or Creative Schools can apply for BLAST.

BLAST is an initiative of the Department of Education, under the Creative Youth Plan 2023-2027. It is led by and in partnership with the 21 full-time Education Centres (Education Support Centres Ireland - ESCI).
