Explorers Education Programme 2026 - Primary Schools

Bring The Ocean To Your Classroom!
Apply now for the award-winning Explorers Education Programme.
The Marine Institute’s Explorers Education Programme offers senior primary school classes a fun, hands-on way to learn about and explore Ireland’s oceans - at no cost to your school.
Delivered by trained Explorers Officers, each module usually involves two interactive visits to your class, packed with engaging activities, curriculum-linked lesson plans, and real-world marine science.
Pupils are inspired to complete a small project based on what they learn, helping to build curiosity, creativity and environmental awareness.
Choose from these exciting modules:
- Aquarium in the Classroom – look after an aquarium with local marine life and explore ocean ecosystems first-hand
- Marine Class Project – dive into topics like the deep sea, phytoplankton, sharks and more
- Seashore Safari – explore your local shoreline and discover its incredible biodiversity
- Healthy Ocean School Project – ideal for larger schools that want multiple classes to participate
Cost – None!
The Explorers Education Programme is fully funded by the Marine Institute.
Transport costs for shore visits, where required, are not included.
