EVENT INFORMATION
This seminar is for both Primary and Post-Primary Mainstream and Special Education Teachers in supporting students with special educational needs with their transition process.
EVENT DESCRIPTION
This one-day seminar is designed to provide an outline of the differences, challenges and supports that students with special educational needs encounter in their transition from Primary to Post-primary school.
Learning Outcomes
Participants will:
- Examine legislation, policy and indicators of good practice relevant to transition.
- Explore the difficulties and challenges experienced by students with special educational needs during the transition process.
- Explore the Bridges of Transition in supporting students with their transition from primary to post-primary
- Consider activities and strategies which may ease transitional difficulties.
- Investigate reading, resources and materials to assist in managing the transition process.
- Engage with case studies to support their planning for the transition process

- Engage with the Padlet of resources to support this seminar
- Review articles in relation to best practice with the transition process
- Engage with case studies to support their planning process
An NCSE Certificate of Attendance is available to participants. Participants will require permission from their Board of Management to attend. Typically, substitution for this full-day professional learning experience will only be allowed: to class and subject teachers and if it is deemed essential by the principal.
