EVENT INFORMATION

This course is for primary and post-primary teachers working with children who use Irish Sign Language (ISL) as their primary means of communication.

EVENT DESCRIPTION

- This introductory level programme has been set up to support school staff wishing to communicate with a student(s) who use ISL as a primary means of communication.
- The course is designed to support school staff to learn the basics of Irish Sign language and to examine best practices to achieve a Deaf friendly environment in the classroom and to build ISL capacity in the school.

Course Content Outline:
- Introduction to ISL, Deaf history and culture, ISL Act 2017, CEFR A1 Themes:
- Each week we will explore a new theme in class while following the Common European Framework of Reference for languages framework.
- ISL resources and other relevant resources will be shared via a Padlet and updated on a weekly basis.
- Further training opportunities will be shared.

Participants will require permissions from their principal / Board of Management to attend. Class preference:

Attendees can choose from week to week between morning and evening sessions. The same link will be given for both classes. An NCSE Certificate of Attendance is available to participants who complete the course.
