Supporting VHR Students

Dear Principal/teacher/parent,

Following a number of queries received by our centre in recent weeks we would like to bring some clarity to the role of the Education Centre in supporting the continuation of Learning for learners at Very High Risk to COVID 19.

The Department of Education had indicated that Education Centres may be in a position to link teachers who are themselves working from home due to their own health status with other schools who have VHR learners who also remain at home. This support was intended to be an additional support to the work of the school.

In order to progress this support Education Centres did make a request from all schools in their region for information on the number of teachers available for this additional support. The response to this request was not sufficient enough to put in place a panel of teachers. Therefore, Education Centres do not currently have a panel of teachers to provide additional supports to learners at very high risk to Covid-19.

Education Centres are however committed to supporting teachers in facilitating remote teaching and learning needs. These supports can extend to assistance with online learning, connecting that teacher with curricular support and resources through the support services and any other bespoke requests that may arise.

Should you have any areas where you would like your local Education Centre to provide support please do contact the centre and we can discuss your request and how best we can respond.

The Education Support Centres Ireland (E.S.C.I.) have produced two webinars in response to demand, which may help schools to fully understand what supports are currently available through the various partners in education such as the Inspectorate, PDST. JCT, NCSE NEPS etc, as well as through the education centre network as a whole. These webinars are available to view below.

E.S.C.I. have also commissioned a suite of webinars for ‘Supporting Schools with VHR students’. For more details on how to access these webinars, click here.
