Nature’s Classroom: Science & Art in The National Park

Using the backdrop of one of Ireland’s National Parks to build connections between biodiversity, the curriculum and a whole school approach to learning about nature. Each day will include range of talks, presentations, guided walks and hands on creative activities promoting both individual and collaborative learning. Topics over the week will include:
- Woodland and Peatland habitats and their ecology
- Building skills in identifying Irish plants & animals, with a specialemphasis on birdlife on day 3
- Visual Arts to celebrate and reinforce learning about nature
- How to plan and facilitate outdoor learning and art sessions effectively
- The role of digital technology in learning about nature
- How citizen science can be used in schools
- Creating and keeping a nature journal to support reflective learning
Since the course will entail lots of outdoor work, it is advisable that participants wear suitable clothing for outdoor activities.
