The course is for Primary teachers newly appointed (September 2025) in established or new autism classes and Primary teachers in schools who are opening subsequent classes

EVENT DESCRIPTION

Course description:
- This introductory course offers educators a neuro affirmative and strengths-based perspective on supporting autistic students.
- We'll explore autism as a unique way of experiencing the world, recognizing the inherent strengths of every autistic student.
- Participants will gain practical strategies and a deeper understanding of creating inclusive and affirming learning environments.
- The course is at an introductory level and further training opportunities for teachers will be outlined during the course.

Course Content and Outline:
- An overview of autism.
- Introduction to visual structured teaching approaches
- An overview of sensory processing and autism
- Developing and encouraging play, communication and interaction for autistic students
- Promotion of regulation to support behaviour
- An introduction to individual and classroom planning

An NCSE Certificate of Attendance is available to participants Participants will require permission from the Board of Management to attend.

Typically, substitution for this full-day professional learning experience will only be allowed: to class and subject teachers and if it is deemed essential by the principal.
